The Romulus Holiday Hoops Classic turned out to be a great two day event. Here are some of the results of the games on the first day.
River Rouge 68 vs. Cody 62– Jr. Terrell Crawford scored 22 points against Cody. A name to remember for the future.
Ford 69 vs. Pontiac 60– Senior point guard Dijon Cogdill added 26 points for Pontiac. Jarod Jones also added some highlight dunks for Pontiac.
Walled Lake Western 54 vs. Southfield Christian 48– The defending Class D champions were not able to get the w against Walled Lake and their big Miroslav Jaskic. The center scored 13 for Walled Lake, while Demarcus Bailey, a sophomore, tallied 15. For the Eagles, Bakari Evelyn scored 14 points, but four of those were in the second half. Demarco White added 14 for the Eagles as well.
Romulus 70 vs. Detroit Community 53– Multiple division one recruits took the floor in the spotlight game at Romulus’ Holiday Hoop Classic on Friday. This game seemed relatively competitive throughout a good portion of the first half. The score at the end of one was 15-13 Romulus . But in the second quarter, things started to get away for Community. This was where South Florida commit, Bo Zeigler, started to get in foul trouble. Resulting in him have to sit the bench throughout most of the quarter. While the superstar was on the bench, Romulus extended their lead to 42-28 at halftime. In the second half, more of the same for Romulus. When you have one of the best finishers in the state, EC Matthews, coming downhill at you, it is over. Not to mention his partner-in-crime, Missouri bound Wes Clark. That is the formula for Romulus extending their lead to 55-37 with 2:52 left in the third. But Community would not go away. Making it a 57-51 ballgame at the end of three. Romulus would not worry, they would extend their lead to 70-53 to hold onto the victory. EC Matthews scored 16 points, Leo Edwards added 16 as well. Senior Jalon Plummer added ten points, and held Zeigler to only 6 points.
